Our story
Cinefonie was born from a long independent filmmaking tradition rooted in Turin and shaped by experimentation, social engagement, and a strong non-mainstream spirit. Its origins trace back to the 1980s and 1990s, when founder Pier Milanese and a network of filmmakers and artists began producing experimental, militant, and industrial films, alongside post-production and service work for major companies. Part of those resources was reinvested into independent cinema through collectives and cooperatives that supported emerging authors and new audiovisual languages.
Over the years, this path evolved through different production structures, including Index and Route 1, which developed documentaries, experimental works, and international collaborations, while also contributing to the cultural and film landscape of Turin and Piedmont. Despite economic crises and structural challenges in the industry, the core team continued to pursue independent production and cultural initiatives.
In 2010, Cinefonie was founded to carry this experience forward. Today the company combines independent film production, documentaries, and creative services, continuing to explore new forms of cinematic storytelling while remaining deeply connected to its experimental and author-driven roots.
